Nominalization is a common feature of technical writing. By making your sentence more simple, nominalization makes your text more academic. In other words, it means convertion of verb and adjective to noun. See these examples:
select > selection
educated > education

educated -> education
Example:
She was selected because she is educated
1. Her selection was because of her education
2. Her education caused her selection
